About
Yelena is a first-year PhD student in the Translational Neurogenomics Laboratory. She completed her bachelor of Biomedical Science (anatomical sciences) at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT). Yelena joined the lab in 2023 when she started her Honours year, which she was awarded first-class honours for her project: Integration of Genome-Wide Association studies and Functional Genomic data to Identify Pleiotropic Genes that influence the Pathogenesis of ADHD and PTSD.
Yelena’s current PhD project aims to elucidate the extent of genetic overlap between ADHD and other disorders from childhood through adulthood, enhancing our comprehension of their co-occurrence, identify specific genomic regions that explain this genetic overlap, shedding light on shared biological mechanisms, investigate the functional implications of these genomic regions, with a particular emphasis on their role in neurodevelopment and systemic physiological processes and uncover potential targets for therapeutic intervention.
