About
Tingyan is a first-year PhD student at the University of Queensland. She joined the Translational Neurgenomics Laboratory in 2023 to complete her honours degree in psychology. Her honours program focused on investigating shared and unique genetic variants that contribute to Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
In her PhD, Tingyan integrates psychometrics with genetics by applying network analysis to mental disorders (predominately depression) with the incorporation of genetic factors. Network analysis shifts the focus from studying disorders in isolation to exploring how symptoms interact within and across mental disorders. Incorporating genetic factors into network enables the understanding of how specific genetic factors are associated with symptoms and their interactions. With the identification of key symptoms clustering and activating others within the network, such analyse holds the promise of disentangling symptom heterogeneity of mental disorders and developing more targeted interventions.
In addition to her academic work, Tingyan is an active member of the QIMR Student Society for 2024, where she is dedicated to enhancing the student experience at the institute. Please feel free to shoot her an email with any idea about student activities and services (and of course, shared research interests!).
