About

Tam Nguyen completed his PhD in cell and molecular biology at Griffith University, Brisbane in 2007. This was followed by Postdoctoral training at the Queensland Brain Institute (University of Queensland) where he studied the mechanisms regulating neurotransmission in neuronal cells.

He has over 18 years’ experience in the academic research environment focusing on basic life sciences research and has co-authored 20 peer-reviewed research papers, reviews and book chapters. During the course of his academic career he has acquired extensive knowledge and experience in fluorescence labelling techniques, optical light microscopy and image data analysis.

Since 2014, he has been a microscopy analyst in the Microscopy facility of QIMR Berghofer. The Microscopy facility comprises over 20 individual instruments and 15 image/data analysis software packages. In this capacity, Tam facilitates the day to day activities of the facility including but not limited to; instrument maintenance and troubleshooting, user training of instruments, data management, data/image analysis assistance, facility IT and software management, and providing microscopy-related technical advice to researchers.
