About

Dr. Fazeleh Etebar is a Research Officer in the Cellular and Molecular Neurodegeneration Group at QIMR Berghofer. She employs advanced cell culture models, including monocyte-derived microglia, to investigate the mechanisms and pathologies of neurodegenerative diseases and to test novel therapeutic compounds in this field. She also has extensive experience in analyzing transcriptional data, which enables the identification of disease-implicated genes, mechanisms, and cellular functions in neurodegenerative diseases.

Dr. Etebar earned her PhD in Neuroimmunology from Queensland University of Technology, where she conducted a comprehensive investigation into microglial phenotypes, transcriptional profiles, and biological functions across different neuroanatomical regions of the CNS. Her work led to the discovery of unique microglial subtypes and the creation of a single-cell immune atlas for the pia mater and choroid. In addition to her PhD in Neuroimmunology, Dr. Etebar holds a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree and a PhD in Veterinary Parasitology from the University of Tehran.
